Kajah Activated Carbon is a member of Rajah Group of companies. The Rajah Group was established in the year 1935 by Haji. A. Abdul Khader Sahib. The group commenced operations in Sri Lanka as an entity engaged in the manufacture and trading of tobacco products, and printing. the operations were later shifted to India and the company grew to be a leading manufacturer of tobacco products with a pan-India presence, employing over 45,000 people directly and indirectly.

Activated carbon is an absorbent that’s widely employed for purification of liquids and gases in a variety of industries. Its applications range from water and gas purification to gold purification, medicine, metal extraction, sewage treatment, air filters in gas masks and filter masks, filters in compressed air and many more. Thanks to its desirable properties, activated carbon holds immense possibilities for use in diverse fields. Activated carbon is manufactured using peat/wood based raw materials or coal, coconut shell charcoal. The steam activation process makes carbon extremely porous, opening up large surface areas for absorption of chemical reactions. Typically, 1 gram of activated carbon has a surface area in excess of 500m3, which is about the size of a football field. Coconut shell based activated carbon in made through steam activation process at temperatures 800-1100oC. The resultant product has a fine pore structure, which makes it ideal for absorbing organic impurities from both liquids and gases.
